The National Defence Volunteer Forces (NDVF) are the first unit of the Lithuanian Armed Forces established in 1991. Today, the National Defence Volunteer Forces are an integral part of the modernly organised Lithuanian military whose task is to prepare for the territorial defence of the country.

A volunteer soldier is a person who is living an ordinary civilian life, but is always prepared to join the national defence forces. If you care about the safety of your loved ones, do not hesitate, join us and become a soldier serving your country!Volunteer military service is usually performed on weekends. A volunteer soldier typically serves an average of 20 to 50 days per year. Based on the choice of the soldier, he/she shall receive remuneration for the days spent in service corresponding to the civilian salary of the volunteer soldier or to his/her military rank. During service, all social guarantees applicable to soldiers shall be granted and all costs relating to military service shall be covered. After reaching the highest level of readiness, volunteer soldiers will be able to join the professional military service or participate in international operations. The volunteer military service accepts citizens of the Republic of Lithuania between 18 to 60 years of age. A contract on volunteer military service is signed for a period of no more than 4 years. A person entering into the contract shall take an oath of allegiance to the Republic of Lithuania. The contract may be extended upon expiration. A volunteer soldier who has served in the forces for 3 years shall receive a certificate of completion of permanent compulsory initial military service (PCIMS).
